2008 Work plan
1. Four research projects and a research paper were carried out as follows:
- Investigating the socio/economic factors that affect maternal morbidity and mortality. It was carried out in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMH).
- A research on the migration and population mobility in Sudan. This research aims to assess the current laws and regulations and administrative arrangements regarding migration process and information in the country and identifying gaps and suggesting appropriate action.
- Researching issues and challenges that face the youth. The objective of the research was investigating and setting policies for the problems that face the youth to assist in setting policies concerning youth.
- Researching fertility in accordance with the NPP orientations. This research is being prepared according to directions of the Council of Ministers when it approved the 2002 NPP. The research aims at identifying the physiological and demographic causes behind the decline occurring in fertility.
- A research paper on population and poverty with the objective of reviewing strategies, policies and the officially approved plans and the extent to which they take into account the linkages between population characteristics and dynamics and poverty.
2. Holding a quarterly forum of voluntary organizations working in the field of population and development about their role in implementing the population policy besides discussing population issues and building partnerships with them.
3. Establishing a monitoring and evaluation unit in the General Secretariat.
4. Capacity-building for the states' population councils.
5. Publishing the "State of Population in Sudan" report for the year 2007.
6. Following-up on the NPP Program of Action regarding its approval, awareness raising and promotion.
7.Following-up on how to work with the Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS) regarding population policies and issues.
The most important achievements in 2008:
- The completion of the following research work:
- Migration and population mobility in Sudan.
- The Socio-economic factors that affect maternal morbidity and mortality.
- The relationship between population and poverty.
- The research on fertility determinants in accordance with NPP.
- Holding four forums of voluntary organizations working in the field of population and development.
- The establishment of Monitoring and Evaluation Unit at the General Secretariat.
- The publication of the State of Population in Sudan report for 2007.
